John Nichols of The Nation talks about the hard work that progressives at the turn of the 20th century did and the important Constitutional amendments that they fought for- like direct election of US Senators and the women’s right to vote. He challenges progressives today with a list of new amendments that would help us save our democracy- like ending corporate personhood and denying that money is speech (thus getting money out of politics); guaranteeing the right to vote; and eliminating the Electoral College and allowing direct election of the US President. It’s a good list, but what about the Equal Rights Amendment, too? (Beverly Hills, June 2013)
